101 uses for Washing Tablet Net Bags (OK - 31 uses!)

Brilliant little freebies!!! No, they don't come in every box of washing powder any more, but it is likely that you will be able to find enough amongst your unit, to use for some, or all of the following ideas contributed by members of GuidingUK email list.

  • use wool to sew through the holes and then used them to bring subs each week. The holes are big enough that you can do it without using needles, or you can use darning needles.
  • keep wrapped sweets in them securely!
  • use to collect subs, hold subs book and money
  • to sort pencils, pens, felt tips
  • string bag - pull the end from the middle
  • CD holder - yes they will fit - just!
  • to hold health form (one form to be held at 'first aid' station, other to be with girl)
  • filling with grease, seeds and leftovers for hanging winter bird cake
  • holding families of pipecleaner teddy bears with other oddments
  • puppets for little hands
  • give the girls a table of scraps and basic craft tools (scissors, paper and glue) and telling them e.g. to come up with a puppet each for patrol puppet shows etc (good way of reducing stock on things that you had to buy whole packets of when your unit doesn't add up to exact whole packets, or those things you kept just in case you could use for a craft but never came up with a craft for)
  • For each child that has to have an inhaler or other medication that must be kept with them they are given a soap tablet bag. The bag has the medication put into it and then pinned with a large safety pin on the inside of a pocket or looped onto their belt. This way I can guarantee that the girls don't lose their inhalers while running about, break them or muddle them up with someone elses!
  • Especially at events where there are lots of girls you don't know, use nets to hold girls name and medical details on a piece of card so that in an emergency, the nearest first aider knows what is going on, treatment needed etc
  • To hold mini bottles of washing up liquid which can then be hung up
  • Hand wash bottles fit in them
  • To put first aid stuff in
  • To use as a coin purse
  • Key holder
  • Camera case
  • My flag rolls up into one
  • I keep my spare batteries in them in sorted sizes.
  • My spares film fit in them so they stay altogether and don't get lost.
  • My camp wash kit fits in one.
  • So does my personal 1st aid kit.
  • My personal repair kit.
  • My badge swaps fit in one too.
  • soap bags to tie to wash stands taps etc - keeps soap with the basin
  • bags for tokens in games
  • for points - if you award tokens/marbles instead of stickers
  • stuffed with bits of string for birds nests
  • threatening cooks to make buns of their hair with - they would never dare come to the cooking area without a hairband after that :-)
